Kate Denborough is an original creator of live performance.

Kate is recognised as one of Australia's foremost choreographers and directors of dance-theatre.

As the Artistic Director of KAGE (1997-2017), Kate devised, directed and/or performed in all of the Company's works. Works Kate has devised and directed include: CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE (2018), Premiere at Norrlandsoperan in Sweden followed by a three week tour through Scandinavia, TONIC (2017), Yarra Ranges,  THERE’S NO CHANGING YESTERDAY (2017), VCA School of Dance, TEAM OF LIFE (2014), Melbourne Festival, FORKLIFT (2014), Sydney Festival, Arts Centre Melbourne, Bleach* Festival and Hoopla Festival. FLESH AND BONE (2013), L’Oreal Fashion Festival and Melbourne Food and Wine Festival as well as SUNDOWNER (2012), which toured to 32 venues over 17 weeks around Australia. Kate has choreographed new work for Australian Dance Theatre, Chunky Move, Tasdance and VCA (School of Dance). As a freelance artist Kate has also been prolific, productions include: directing Frank Woodley’s solo show Possessed, choreographing Meow Meow’s Little Mermaid and the Malthouse production of The Threepenny Opera.

Many of her works have won industry awards and national and international recognition. The awards include the Canberra Critics Circle Award for Dance, a Green Room Award for Female Emerging Artist in Dance and joint winner of the Eva Czajor memorial Award, which salutes women directors. Kate was awarded the Paris residency at the Cite Internationale des Arts in 2001.
In 2013 Kate was recognised in The Australian Financial Review and Westpac Group 100 Women of Influence Awards.
